When is the best time for a beach proposal?
Early morning and late afternoon are best — softer light, gentler heat and far thinner crowds than the middle of the day. Because the beaches are public, we choose a quieter stretch or a quieter hour, or set a private cabana, so the moment stays yours on a shared shore.
The beaches' great practical advantage is shelter. When the summer meltemi wind is battering the exposed caldera and ruling out a cliff-edge or a sail, the south-coast beaches often stay calm and warm — which makes a beach proposal both a lovely first choice and the best weather backup on the island.
