“We absolutely enjoyed the photo shoot with Serafim and the elite planning and execution of the whole team — all while in another country with different time zones. The photos turned out beautifully and my fiancé was thrilled. Worth every effort.”
Tina Jun 2025 · via WeddingWireAmoudi Bay proposal: the waterfront below Oia's cliffs
Down the steps from Oia lies a little fishing port where red rocks meet the sea and seafood tavernas line the quay — a barefoot-feeling counterpoint to the crowds up on the rim.
An Amoudi Bay proposal takes place at the water's edge of the little fishing port below Oia — red volcanic rock rising behind you, painted boats on the quay and the open sea in front. It swaps the clifftop crowds for a sea-level moment, with a private sunset sail or a waterside taverna dinner right at your feet.
Why propose down at Amoudi instead of up in Oia?
You propose down at Amoudi when you want the harbour itself — the boats, the water and the grilled-fish smell of the tavernas at arm's length — rather than the view of it from high above. It is the little port at the bottom of Oia's cliff, reached down a long stone staircase or by the winding access road, and it is still a working harbour: painted fishing boats tied to the quay, and seafood tavernas built onto the rust-red rock right at the waterline.
Most visitors only ever see this side of Oia from the rim above and never walk down to it — which is exactly why it feels like your own. Around the headland, the little Agios Nikolaos chapel-rock draws swimmers who leap from its ledge into deep water, and the quay is a single easy step from a private sunset sail. For couples building a Santorini proposal around the water rather than a view, few corners of the island feel this unhurried. Amoudi is also spelled Ammoudi; both names point to the same little port below the village.
Timing, light and access at Amoudi
Getting down
Roughly 300 steps lead down from Oia, or a winding road brings a car to the quay. We usually arrange a transfer down.
Best time of day
Late afternoon into sunset, when the red rock glows warm and the boats come back in for the evening.
Privacy level
Medium — it is a working port with tavernas. We reserve a quiet corner of the quay, a table or a private boat for the moment.
The setting
Rust-red volcanic cliffs, painted fishing boats and the Agios Nikolaos chapel-rock that swimmers jump from around the headland.
What we set up
Florals, lanterns, a reserved waterside table or a boat with champagne and music — styled to your palette and cleared afterwards.
Photography
A discreet photographer captures the reveal, then portraits with the boats and cliffs behind. See proposal photography.
Can you leave for a sunset sail straight from Amoudi Bay?
Yes — Amoudi is one of the island's main departure points for private caldera cruises, so we can walk you from the quay straight onto a chartered catamaran and sail into the sunset. It hands you a view you can only get from the water: Oia's cliffs seen from below and offshore, with no terrace, railing or other couple anywhere in the frame.
Many couples do both — a stroll and a reserved table among the tavernas, then out onto the water as the light drops, or the reverse. Because you board at sea level, there are no steps once you are down at the quay.
- Board right at the quay — no stairs once you are down at the water.
- Amoudi's tavernas serve the day's catch off the boats; a reserved table makes an easy celebration before or after.
- Prefer to stay ashore? A waterside table has the same red-rock backdrop without leaving dry land.

Nick Aug 2024 · via WeddingWireAmoudi Bay proposal questions
Amoudi Bay is the small fishing port directly below Oia, on Santorini's north-west coast. It sits at the foot of the cliff that Oia is built on, and is reached from the village down a stone staircase or by a winding access road.
Yes, if you love the idea of a relaxed, sea-level moment rather than a high clifftop view. You get glowing red rocks, painted fishing boats, waterfront seafood tavernas and an easy private boat departure, in a spot that still feels like a working Greek harbour rather than a postcard.
By the cliff staircase of roughly 300 steps down from Oia, by the winding access road by car or taxi, or by boat. We usually arrange a road transfer down to the quay so nobody arrives out of breath just before the surprise.
Yes. The bay faces the open water toward the island of Thirasia, so the sun sets over the sea and the red rocks catch the last light. Because it sits at the base of the cliff, the direct light leaves a little earlier than up on Oia's rim above it.
Yes. The quay is lined with seafood tavernas where the catch comes straight off the boats, so a reserved waterside table is a natural way to celebrate right after the question. We book it in advance and time it around the light.
A styled Amoudi setup with a photographer typically starts around the €950 Classic and rises if you add a private boat charter, such as our €3,400 Sunset Sailing. See the Santorini proposal cost guide for a full breakdown.
Ask the question down at Amoudi.
We'll reserve the quay or the boat, time the light and keep the secret.
