How much does a Santorini proposal cost?

A styled proposal table at golden hour
Flowers, candles, photography, a private terrace — this is where the budget actually goes.

The Santorini proposal cost couples ask me about most is also the one they're most nervous to raise, so let me answer it the way I wish more people in this industry would: plainly. There is no single price, but there are clear bands, and the figure depends almost entirely on three choices — the setting, the styling, and how much you want handled for you. Here is the honest breakdown, with real ranges and the things that quietly move the number.

The short version: a beautifully styled cliffside proposal with a photographer typically lands in the €1,500–€4,000 range. A private catamaran sail starts from around €3,400; a full villa production or bespoke commission runs €5,000–€12,000+; and a helicopter is the highest tier, priced individually. A simple, self-arranged moment can be done for a few hundred euros. Below, where every euro goes.

Santorini proposal cost — quick facts

  • Biggest single cost: the venue and its exclusivity — a private terrace, villa or vessel
  • Best value spend: a private setting and a good photographer, before elaborate styling
  • The ring: budgeted entirely separately
  • Cheapest seasons: spring & autumn — the same beauty at lower rates, with smaller crowds
  • Book: 4–8 weeks ahead in peak season (May–October)
  • Full price bands: see the tier table below

The three things that set the price

Almost the entire price comes down to three levers — the venue, the styling and the service level. (1) the venue — a public viewpoint is free but crowded; an exclusive terrace, villa or yacht is the single biggest cost (compare them in where to propose in Santorini). (2) the styling — one bouquet and candles versus a full floral installation. (3) the service level — doing it yourself versus having a team design, set up, coordinate and clear everything while you simply arrive. Decide where you sit on each and the budget more or less writes itself.

Entry level: a simple styled moment (€500–€1,500)

At the gentlest end, you're choosing a lovely public or semi-private viewpoint (or a barefoot beach), a modest but tasteful styling touch — a bouquet, a few hurricane lanterns, perhaps a small sign — and a photographer to capture it. It's the right level for couples happy to share the view and handle some logistics themselves. What you trade is privacy and control: you're sharing the view, and you're managing more of the logistics yourself. Our step-by-step planning guide is written precisely so you can self-arrange at this level.

The sweet spot: a styled cliffside proposal (€1,500–€4,000)

This is where most of our couples land, and where the jump in quality per euro is steepest. You get a reserved private terrace with the caldera view (so no strangers in your photos) — while the public Oia viewpoints around the Venetian-era Kastro pack shoulder-to-shoulder 60–90 minutes before sundown — plus considered styling, a professional proposal photographer, and a team that sets everything up in secret and packs it away after. It is the difference between hoping for a romantic moment and being given one. This band corresponds closely to our Caldera / Cliffside Proposal.

Premium: private villa & bespoke (€5,000–€12,000+)

Step up to a fully private villa terrace or a bespoke production and you're paying for exclusivity, scale and customisation: a venue that is entirely yours for the evening, more elaborate florals and lighting, live music, private dining, and a producer choreographing every minute. This is the tier for couples who want a flawless, cinematic event with nothing shared and nothing improvised. See the Private Villa Proposal and our Signature / Bespoke commissions.

At sea & in the air: yacht and helicopter

A private sunset sail adds the cost of the vessel and crew on top of styling and photography — a shared catamaran is more accessible, a fully private yacht considerably more. A helicopter flight over the caldera is the highest-cost option we arrange, priced as a bespoke experience. Both buy you something rare: total privacy and a story few people will ever match. Budget a flexible backup date, too — the summer meltemi wind can push a sail to the calmer morning or a sheltered south-coast alternative. Explore the Sunset Sailing package, or our full yacht proposal guide.

The line items, explained

Whatever the band, the budget is built from the same components. Here's what each one typically contributes and why:

  • Venue / exclusivity — usually the largest single cost. A private terrace, villa or vessel is what removes the crowd from your moment.
  • Styling & flowers — ranges enormously, from a single bouquet to a floral arch. See proposal design & styling.
  • Photography & video — the one cost couples never regret; price scales with hours and whether you add film. See photography & videography.
  • Private dining & champagne — a celebratory dinner or a chilled bottle at the moment of "yes." See private dining & champagne.
  • Transfers — discreet, timed transport so nothing is rushed. See transportation & transfers.
  • Music & entertainment — a violinist or guitarist for the reveal is a small spend with outsized impact. See live music.
  • Coordination & surprise logistics — the planning, timing and discretion that make it effortless. See surprise logistics.

What about the ring?

The ring sits outside these figures — it's entirely personal and varies more than anything else here. If you'd rather not travel carrying it, or want help sourcing or resizing once you arrive, we offer a discreet ring sourcing & concierge service. Budget it separately from the proposal itself.

Hidden costs to plan for (so they're not a surprise)

The reputable end of this industry should never spring extras on you, but here are the things first-timers forget: seasonal pricing (peak summer costs more than spring or autumn), transfers if your hotel is far from the venue, a backup plan for weather, and any permits for certain public spots. We fold all of these into one quoted figure, so the number you approve is the number you pay.

Should you book a package or build it piece by piece?

A package costs a little more than doing it yourself, but the coordination is exactly what you're paying for. Assembling everything yourself — venue, florist, photographer, transfer, champagne — can shave a little off the headline cost, and for a confident planner with time on their hands it's entirely doable. What you trade is coordination and risk: five separate suppliers who've never worked together, five timelines to align, and no single person accountable if one of them slips on the night. A package costs a touch more because that coordination is the product — one team, one timeline, one point of contact, and a rehearsed plan with built-in backups. My rule of thumb: if you're local or experienced, build it yourself; if you're planning from another country and want to simply arrive, a proposal planner usually pays for itself in peace of mind. Compare the fixed options on the packages page against your own shortlist and see which feels right.

You're not buying flowers and a photographer. You're buying the assurance that, on the most important evening, nothing is left to chance.

How to get the most for your budget

To stretch your budget, propose in spring or autumn for the same beauty at lower seasonal rates and smaller crowds — and note the sunset swings from about 20:40 in late June to nearer 19:00 by early October, which shifts your whole dinner-and-transfer timing (see our sunset timing guide). Spend first on the two things you can't redo: a private setting and a good photographer. Keep styling elegant rather than elaborate; restraint reads as luxury here. And book early — last-minute scarcity, not extravagance, is what usually inflates a proposal budget. One more honest tip: decide your firm ceiling before you start choosing, and brief whoever you work with on it from the first message. A good planner will design beautifully to a budget rather than nudging you past it, and the ones who won't tell you that upfront are the ones to avoid.

Every couple's number is different, and the only way to give you a real one is to talk through what you actually want.
