Every Couple · Same Sunset

Same-sex proposal in Santorini: the caldera doesn't check

The same golden hour, the same hidden photographer, the same shaking hands — planned with zero assumptions.

A same-sex proposal in Santorini is planned exactly like every proposal we stage — same terraces, same sunset, same discretion — by a team that has always welcomed LGBTQ+ couples. Greece legalised same-sex marriage in 2024, and the island's romance has never checked anyone's paperwork anyway.

The welcome

Is Santorini welcoming for same-sex couples?

Yes — plainly and in practice. Santorini is one of the world's great honeymoon islands; couples of every kind fill its terraces every evening of the season, and the island's entire economy is romance. Greece recognised civil partnerships in 2015 and legalised same-sex marriage in February 2024.

What couples actually ask us beneath that question is subtler: will anyone make it weird? On our watch, no — the venues we book, the photographers we send and the coordinators who run your evening are our regular team doing their regular work, briefed on your names and nothing else unusual. And for couples travelling from places where holding hands still takes courage: the caldera at golden hour has seen every kind of love there is, and it keeps every secret it's told — as does our secrecy playbook.

What does the planning journey look like?

  • The first call

You tell us the story so far — who's asking, or whether you both are. We've choreographed every version.

  • The design

Setting, styling and light chosen like any of our proposals: from the whole island's settings, to your taste.

  • The day

Setup while you're out, decoy walk, hidden photographer, the question — and champagne opened by people genuinely delighted for you.

  • After the yes

Portraits in the last light, dinner where we booked it, and — if you want it — a symbolic ceremony later in the trip.

Same-sex proposal questions

Yes. Santorini is one of the world's great honeymoon islands and hosts couples of every kind, every day of the season. Greece has recognised civil partnerships since 2015 and legalised same-sex marriage in February 2024. On the ground, the island's business is romance — yours included.

The plan is identical — terrace, styling, photographer, timing. What we add is attention where it counts: no assumptions about who asks or who kneels, both-ring choreography if you want it, and a photographer briefed on your names and how you want the moment described. Small things; they matter.

Beautifully. Some couples exchange both rings at the proposal; some plan a deliberate "counter-proposal" minutes or days later; some keep one ring as the surprise and choose the second together on the island. We choreograph whichever version is yours — including hiding two boxes instead of one.

A symbolic one, yes — our celebrant-led elopement ceremonies are personal, unhurried and not legally binding, which keeps the paperwork at home and the romance here. Greece has legalised same-sex marriage, but we deliberately arrange only the symbolic celebration; couples complete the legal step in their home country.

Then discretion runs the plan, as it often does for our couples of every kind: unlisted planning threads, a photographer who delivers privately, and nothing published or shared without your explicit say-so. The island will keep your moment exactly as quiet — or as loud — as you want it.

That is the brief. Our photographers shoot couples, full stop — the posing guidance is about light and honesty, not roles, and nobody will ask "who's the groom" or arrange you into a template. Expect direction like "walk, talk, forget me" — the photographs come out looking like the two of you.

Same sunset

Love is love. The light agrees.

Tell us your story and your dates — we'll build the moment with zero assumptions and total discretion.
